During Christmas 2010, 3 year old Ben Allen became unwell and was referred to Alder Hey for tests. A bone marrow biopsy confirmed he had leukemia and two days after receiving the news, Ben began intensive chemotherapy.
Alongside chemotherapy, Ben’s treatment has included daily oral chemo and steroids and injections in his line. Ben’s treatment came to an end in March 2014.
In March 2014 Ben’s treatment ended - this coincided with his 7th birthday, and he celebrated with a massive party for family, friends and the friends he made here at Alder Hey. Ben’s mum, Melanie says, “We’re lucky as Ben loved coming to Alder Hey, our only problem was that he had too much fun and we couldn’t get him home!”
Ben is a Young Fundraising Ambassador for Alder Hey Children's Charity.
